Surrendering

(For Annette)

He came through you
To light a torch of passion in this life.

The body shudder of his birth, just one
Of many surrenders you would make for this son.

Too soon, for a mother's soul,
He leaped across the chasm of the extraordinary,

Surrendering his young man's body,
Touched as only a mother's sacred hands would know.

Such great hearts move on, dear sister, ever slipping
Their beating life into fields of play and light.

In the endless expanse of divine grace,
May you taste joy in a different surrender;

And, when you notice the sunlight, dancing itself
On rain-soaked leaves, remember,

The music he hears now
First lived in you.

This is true.
